Did you the the Nike Air Force 1 (or AF1 or AF-1) was never originally called the Air Force? The name is a reference to 'Air Force One', the plane that carries the President of the United States. The Nike Air Force 1 was produced in 1982. At first, The Nike AF1 was worn on the basketball court. NBA players Jack Stackhouse and Rasheed Wallace have worn Nike AF1s on court. Little has changed to the Nike Air Force 1 since its creation 1982, although the original sticking on the side panels is no longer present in modern versions of the shoe. Since then, over 1700 color variations have been produced whereof you can always find a number of them at Burned Sports. The Nike Air Force 1 was originally considered the favored shoe of inner-city youth, especially in Harlem, New York; hence the nickname 'Uptowns'. Now, almost 40 years later, the Nike Air Force One has become a favorite of sneaker collectors and sneaker lovers. The Air Force 1 stays true to its roots with soft, springy cushioning, but the Nike Air technology takes a back seat to the shoe's status as an icon.
